Project summary
The two key components of the project were:
- Determining future demand and needs for public transport in the region
- Developing ideas for public transport solutions to address the future public transport needs in the region
Stakeholder feedback across two workshops and a public survey (over 1,300 responses) demonstrated the region has an inadequate public transport service based on the following common themes:
- Inadequate frequency of service
- Poor network coverage
- Oversubscribed Park n Ride facilities
- Fare inequities between metro and regional fares
- Poor integration between service providers
- Poor public transport information
- Poor bus stop amenity and access
The public survey elicited comments such as:
“More feeder services using smaller buses to run more frequently between towns and on weekends”
“More bus stops closer to residents, particularly where new estates are being developed”
“Cheaper fare and being able to use my MetroCard”
“Train service to Mt Barker”
The final project report has been released (see link below) providing recommendations for the region as a whole, for the hills and for the Fleurieu across short, medium and long-term timeframes. These recommendations will inform RDA and other stakeholders advocacy work moving forward.
