Project summary

The concept focuses on developing:

  • Rail and highway bypass from Murray Bridge to Two Wells running south of Truro
  • Melbourne to Adelaide, Perth and Darwin freight diverted from Adelaide Hills and metro area
  • Provision for freight hubs in Murraylands and Two Wells districts
  • Potential to run high quality public transport services from the Hills into Adelaide using former freight corridor and freed up road capacity

  • Free up capacity and extend the economic life of existing freeway
  • Improved safety on existing freeway
  • Reduced freight operation costs
  • Substantial mitigation of level crossing delays
  • Reduced congestion on metropolitan arterial roads
  • Reduced fire danger in Hills districts
  • Shifting of logistics hubs out of inner areas of Adelaide, freeing up land for urban infill

Project Scope

RDA (Adelaide Hills Fleurieu & KI) is seeking proposals from a small group of targeted organisations to undertake a scoping study into the Realignment of the Adelaide Hills Rail corridor via a review and update of the GHD final report on Adelaide Rail Freight Movements Study for the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development & Local Government published in June 2010.
