A Celebration of Youth
A group of young people from across the Fleurieu were recognised for their achievement’s in courses including responsible service of
alcohol, construction, white card, gaming certificate, brick laying, forklift driver and hospitality certificates.
While others were recognised for developing life skills and being successful and responsible tenants.
Three of the young recipients were unable to attend due to work commitments which were applauded as the very best of reasons to be
absent.
During December twenty two young people ranging in age from 16 to 24 years, gathered at the Encounter Bay Football Club to receive an
achievement award from Regional Development Australia Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu & Kangaroo Island and South Australia Works program for their achievement in 2011.
Guest Speaker for the evening was Leanne Saunders from StephLea furniture that inspired many of the young people with her success story of backyard manufacturer to overseas exporter of quality furniture.
Local rock band Cherry Grind who themselves have achieved great things this year by winning the Jack Daniels State Battle of the Bands competition capped the celebration off with some of their original music.
On hand to help with the celebrations included representatives from local job search agencies Workskil, FWS and Employment Options as well as Mission Australia, TAFE, DOME, Alloomba, Whalers Housing and the Southern Fleurieu Health Service.
